Navy’s rapid response brought passengers aboard Perl Link safely to shore



Sri Lanka Navy swiftly responded to a maritime distress of the passenger ship Perl Link, which overturned at sea on 12 Jul 25, while carrying a party of local tourists from Delft Island to Kurikadduwan Jetty. Responding swiftly to the occurrences, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered aid to evacuate all twelve (12) tourists and two (02) crew members on board and brought them ashore unharmed.


When SLNS Wasaba in Delft Island was notified of the sinking passenger ship in the surrounding waters, a naval vessel equipped with life-saving equipment was sent out right away. All fourteen (14) people were safely recovered and taken to Kurikadduwan Jetty with the help of another nearby boat.

According to reports, the catastrophe happened on the way back from Delft Island, causing the passenger vessel to be flooded by seawater and ultimately sink.

The swift response of the Sri Lanka Navy in this specific situation guaranteed that there were no casualties or injuries, and they maintain a high level of preparedness for maritime emergencies.
