In a landmark step toward digital trade facilitation, Sri Lanka Customs has officially launched the web-based Customs Document Notification System (CDNS) — a modern platform designed to boost transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in customs clearance.
This new digital customs system allows importers, exporters, freight forwarders, and logistics companies in Sri Lanka to receive real-time notifications on the status of their customs documents. By moving away from slow, manual updates and paperwork, the CDNS promises faster clearance times, reduced delays, and a streamlined import-export process.
Why the Customs Document Notification System (CDNS) Matters
The CDNS launch is part of Phase 1 of the Automated Risk Management System Project, a core pillar of Sri Lanka Customs’ digital transformation initiative. The system was developed by Creative Web Technologies, selected through a competitive process among eight local IT firms — setting a new benchmark for digital government services in Sri Lanka.
Key Benefits of CDNS:
- Transparency in Trade – Importers and exporters can track document progress instantly, eliminating hidden delays.
- Real-Time Alerts – Automated notifications on approvals, queries, or pending actions keep stakeholders informed.- Anywhere Accessibility – The web-based platform ensures access to updates anytime, anywhere with internet connectivity.
- Improved Efficiency – Quicker communication between Sri Lanka Customs and trade stakeholders means faster cargo clearance and smoother logistics operations.
Strengthening Sri Lanka’s Position in Global Trade
By embracing digital customs solutions, Sri Lanka positions itself as a competitive hub for Indian Ocean trade and logistics. The CDNS enhances trade facilitation, improves regulatory compliance, and supports the nation’s goal of becoming a digitally empowered, transparent, and investor-friendly economy.
With this bold move, Sri Lanka Customs underscores its commitment to innovation and efficiency in border management and international trade operations.
